Watch Apple’s October 2013 keynote here

Today’s Apple keynote marked the announcement of the release of the free Mac OS X Maverics, the release of the updated and now free iWorks and iLife application packages, the announcement of the hardware updates to the MacBook Pro lineup and the availability and specs info about the Mac Pro. Last but not least, we saw the announcement of the iPad Air and the Retina update to the iPad mini.


All this fit into less than an hour and a half so you can be sure the pace was hectic. But you don’t have to take my word for it.

Apple released its first dedicated commercial for the gold iPhone 5s. Entitled “Metal Mastered”, the thirty-second clip unsurprisingly features a good deal of bling.


The ad shows liquid gold on the screen, slowly taking the shape of an iPhone 5s.

Japan.


The first promo video is quite extensive – it features the Sony Xperia Z1 f alongside its bigger brother – the “regular” Z1 with a 5” display.

Nokia is holding a competition offering you a chance to win a trip to Puerto Rico with National Geographic photographer Stephen Alvarez while throwing in a free Lumia 1020. In order to boost the quality of the entries, the Finns have decided to throw in a quick blog post listing five tips for taking awesome landscape photos.


The first advice Nokia gives is to carefully plan the photo you’re going to take. Keep in mind the weather conditions, know the best vantage points, get extra batteries and also get the right clothing.

Mitsubishi to integrate HERE Auto services in its North American cars

HERE and Mitsubishi are partnering to bring HERE Auto services to the North American models of Lancer, Lancer Evolution, Lancer Sportback, Outlander and Outlander Sport.




Those models will get real-time traffic, weather data, fuel stations and fuel price information on those stations – all this easily accessible from the steering wheel controls or the touch-enabled display.

A duo of catchy Samsung Galaxy Gear ads go live in the United States, check them out

Samsung launched a duo of cool ads for its Galaxy Gear Smartwatch in the United States. The commercials take the viewer on a trip down memory lane by featuring some of Hollywood’s most memorable interpretations on the watch as a tool of communication.


Both ads feature timepieces from movies such as Star Trek, Knight Rider, Predator, Jetsons, etc. At the end of each commercial, Samsung showcases the Galaxy Gear telling us that the gadget from the movies is finally real.

Samsung denies accusations of Galaxy Note 3 benchmark cheating

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was caught boosting the benchmark results, a couple of days ago. But, as one can expect, Samsung has denied all reports suggesting that the Galaxy Note 3 ups the performance when the phablet recognizes the benchmarking apps.


Samsung continues to defend itself over the recent reports that reveal that almost all the smartphone manufacturers cheat on the benchmark scores.

Sony Xperia Z1 undergoes a drop test

Sony Xperia Z1 is one of the most elegant smartphones in the market. The Xperia Z1 design has a metal casing and has both its front and back covered in glass. It’s almost a pity that a smartphone as pretty has to go for a ride in a drop test, but that’s the fate of every high-end device these days.

Photos of Nokia-branded wristband hint at smartwatch

Have you heard the rumors? Everyone is making a smartwatch – Sony and Samsung already have theirs out, but Apple, Google and now Nokia are in the mix too. The first evidence of a Nokia watch are two photos of a Nokia-branded wristband.



Here’s something funny – a group of ex-Nokia employees put a smartwatch project on Kickstarter, while a former Nokia exec (VP, Entry Business Line) of is chairman at another smartwatch company.

Analyst: Apple iWatch coming in late 2014, to be priced around $149-229

Apple’s iWatch is one of the most hotly anticipated gadgets, especially after reports that Samsung will be launching its Galaxy Gear smartwatch next week. However, according to the latest gossip, Apple’s iWatch is not coming anytime soon and is expected to launch only in the second half of 2014.




According to an analyst at CIMB Group, 60% of Apple’s iWatch orders are expected to be manufactured by Invetec, the Taiwan-based ODM. The deal is expected to generate about 19% of Invetec’s profits in the coming year.

Drop test: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 hits the pavement on video

Why would you drop a brand new expensive gadget? Well, curiosity but also entertainment for people on the Internet. You just have to pick an interesting victim, say a Samsung Galaxy Note 3.


How does its faux leather back survive a collision with the pavement?
Turns out, pretty well. The only thing that suffered was the camera housing that protrudes from the back, the camera lens, however, was intact. The bottom of the phablet did well too, only sustaining cosmetic damage.

For the first time ever Lenovo sells more phones and slates than computers

Lenovo has recently became the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world with a 4.7% market share, just 0.3% less than LG in third. Lenovo’s success doesn’t end with its newly earned fourth place though.


According to the latest earnings report the Chinese company has sold more phones and tablets than personal computers for the first time in its history. If you think the achievement is not that impressive, you should note the fact Lenovo is currently world’s biggest PC manufacturer with 12+ million PCs shipped globally in the last quarter alone.
