High-end Xperia devices can play games with DUALSHOCK 3 controller

We’ve seen a number of Android-based consoles crop up, but why buy a separate device when you already have a beefy chipset in your phone? Sony has added DUALSHOCK 3 support (that’s the PlaStation 3 controller) to several of its Xperia devices to enable a more console-like gaming experience.

Playing with the DUALSHOCK 3 controller frees up the screen of the device to just render the graphics of the game,

Windows 8.1 introduces mouse lag, gaming issues

As it turns out Windows 8.1 update may cause some trouble with popular action games. If you update to Windows 8.1 you may experience severe mouse lag on Call of Duty, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Metro 2033 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat.

Various users are reporting on Reddit they’ve started to experience mouse lag after they updated to Windows 8.1.

Growing up with PlayStation since 1995 condensed to 3 minute ad

Sony wants to tickle your nostalgia bone with a promo video of the PlayStations over the years that shows how many avid players grew up with the console. “This is for the Players” says the video as it shows quick peeks of games you’ve played in the past and the games you’ll play on the upcoming PlayStation 4.

The video is very well made (a long tradition for PlayStation ads), with no apparent cuts – the camera just

NVIDIA announces G-SYNC technology for smoother gaming experience

If you’re a PC gamer (or just a geek in general), you may have heard of the term V-sync. It works by delaying the image frame update until the vertical blanking interval of the display, so that there is no overlapping of frames that leads to screen tearing. While this does eliminate screen tearing, it causes performance issues with low framerate and a jerky mouse response. This leads to most people choosing to keep it disabled to get higher framerate and response at reduced visual quality.

The problem today is that LCD monitors usually have a fixed panel refresh rate of 60Hz and unless the GPU is attaining anything other than 60fps,

Asphalt 8 Airborne goes free on iOS

If you’re a fan of burning rubber on mobile and happen to be an iOS user then you’d be pleased to find that today Asphalt 8 Airborne, the latest title of the game, has gone free on iOS.

Android gamers don’t get to enjoy the same spoils, sadly, and this isn’t even the first time the game has gone free on iDevices.

‘Plants vs. Zombies 2′ now available on Android

As if the delays for the much anticipated sequel to the original Plants vs. Zombies weren’t enough, EA decided to push back the Android release of Plants vs. Zombies 2 even further to an unspecified date.

That unspecified date happened to be yesterday as the Android version of the game was finally released on the Play Store.

‘Headless’ for iOS and Android game review

One of the most fun category of games on the mobile platform is endless runners. While these may be deemed too simple on consoles or on the PC, their minimal control system makes them ideal for the touchscreen-based devices, not to mention they have proven to be enormously addictive and great for quick playthroughs when you have some time to spare.

Some great examples would be the many variations of Temple Run, Canabalt, Jetpack Joyride and several other games

Android-powered consoles are a growing niche – the Ouya made a huge splash with its record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, but MadCatz is looking to dethrone it as the best Android console with its new M.O.J.O. console.

The M.O.J.O. runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and is powered by Tegra 4 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A15 @ 1.8GHz, 72-core GeForce GPU), has 2GB of RAM and comes with 16GB of built-in storage

Star Wars: Tiny Death Star game brings Darth Vader to Tiny Tower

Tiny Tower – a popular block stacking game with a city building theme – is following in the footsteps of Angry Birds and getting a Star Wars edition of its own. Where the birds joined to good guys, the Tower is on the side of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

As you probably know, those two made a couple of unsuccessful attempts to construct the Death Star so now they need your help to do it right.

‘Cat on a Diet’ for iOS game review

We all like to see console-quality games on the mobile platform. But while these games look great in demos, they often don’t play very well on a touchscreen due to the lack of physical controls. I have personally been more fond of simple, casual games on mobile that manage to be fun without being too heavy on graphics and employ a simple control scheme that takes advantage of a touchscreen rather than be crippled by it.

Cat on a Diet on a diet is a new casual title from Chillingo, the people who brought us games like Cut the Rope in the past.

Angry Birds Star Wars II’ for iOS, Android, Windows Phone game review

The original Angry Birds Star Wars hit the app stores last year in November and came as a breath of fresh air. Although an Angry Birds game at heart, the game featured brand new birds modeled after Star Wars characters and had their own unique new powers that made the game more exciting than what you’d expect from an Angry Birds game.

Now, Rovio is back with a sequel, with the aptly named Angry Birds Star Wars II that is based on the prequel trilogy of Star Wars movies, and once again features several new characters and environments in dozens of new levels. But after four years and several similar games, is flinging birds at pigs still going to be entertaining? Let’s find out.

Valve announces Steam Controller

After announcing the SteamOS and Steam Hardware, Valve has finally announced the last piece of their living-room gaming puzzle: Steam Controller.

Steam Controller is a completely fresh and innovative new design for the humble gaming controller that we have been using since decades. It eschews existing control systems and replaces them with their modern equivalent that will provide a sense of familiarity as well as novelty, while managing to work with all of your existing Steam games.

Valve announces SteamOS

We wrote last week about an impending announcement by Valve. Turns out, that announcement was the new SteamOS.

So what is this SteamOS? SteamOS is an operating system that will run on computers meant to be connected to your TV and let you play your Steam games there. The trick here is that the games don’t necessarily have to run on that computer itself but can run on another computer with Steam and then get streamed over local Wi-Fi network.
